g4 ibook booting problem

Hello,

I have a 2005 model ibook with a g4 1.33 Ghz processor. The system stopped booting for some reason. When I loaded the installation disk, it allowed me to progresss I the installation but at the screen where one has to select the destination disk, it does not show any disk and so cannot progress beyond that.

Are there any hotkeys which will lead me to the bios and/or do an fsck on the disk to fix any boot sector corruption?

Further, if all else fails is there a service centre in Bangalore, india where I can go and get it fixed or better have the data copied over to a SSD drive?

thanks

The 2005 model iBook G4 1.33 Ghz will only boot from its 10.4.2 included iBook disc, or the 10.4.3, or 10.4.6 retail disc noted on my tip:

https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-2541

The 10.4.1, and just plain 10.4 discs will not work, nor will 10.4 installer discs from other Macs work.

The 10.5 retail discs noted on the tip will also work:

Data recovery tools with the proper aforementioned operating system as a boot operating system on my FAQ*:

http://www.macmaps.com/backup.html

will also work.

A system as old as your iBook may be recoverable by the Bangalore Mac stores, but there is no guarantee. You will have to call around.

Also the iBook will not boot from an external USB drive. The drive has to be either an internal Parallel IDE/ATA 9.5 mm drive, or an external Firewire drive.

http://www.macsales.com/ offers these drives worldwide.
